Problem pioneers can be defined as individuals with a problem that is not only new, but that is destined to be important to an entire field or the community at large some time in the future. Certain key members of a field find themselves in contact with problems that have high growth potential. In this respect, such individuals are “ahead of their time.” Their proximity to a problem leads them to address it before others in their field are compelled to do so.
